I Belong: Morgan Stinson

Morgan Stinson, PE
Chief Operating Officer
EEA Consulting Engineers

Can you tell us a bit about your career?

I would describe my career in two stages. The first was a fairly standard, linear trajectory as an Engineer, starting out as an Engineer in Training (EIT), growing my skill set and technical abilities through more and larger projects, getting licensed as a Professional Engineer, and beginning to take on Project Management activities. The PM side of life transitioned to phase 2, where people management, leadership, and client relationships became my primary focus. Today I’m the Chief Operating Officer for a 130 person MEP Engineering firm with 4 offices in 3 states.

What is your marketing superpower?

As simple as it sounds, I think just being friendly. My baseline mood is generally pretty cheerful, and I’ve always found it easy to get along with people. I’m someone who defaults to trust, and that has served me well over the years.

How did you get involved in SMPS?

I took on the COO role for my firm in 2018, which normally would not tie directly to Marketing and Business Development. But I was the Officer most eager and comfortable with supporting those functions so it was natural for me to own those areas of the business. However, I’m an Engineer and have never taken a single sales or marketing class, so I knew I had A LOT to learn. SMPS has been a great resource for me to gain knowledge and insight into a domain that I am responsible for, but have no formal training in.

Why is SMPS valuable to you?

As mentioned above, SMPS has been a great resource for me to gain knowledge and insight into a domain that I am responsible for, but have no formal training in.

Why do you belong in SMPS?

Because I need and want to grow my skills in Marketing, to support not only my company’s goals but also to serve my Marketing staff to make sure they can excel in their careers. #lifelonglearner
