Marketing Communications Awards and Individual Nomination Awards

Thank you to all of you that submitted your firm’s work for the SMPS Austin 9th Annual Marketing Communications Awards (MCAs) held at our Fifth Annual Black + White Bash in early 2020!

2019 Community Service Award Recipient

The Community Service Award recognizes an individual of the Austin A/E/C industry who continually demonstrates and promotes volunteerism within the community.

Since moving to Austin in 2013, Justin Brodnax, Preconstruction Manager for Hoar Construction, has immersed himself in community service. Justin has been actively involved in the ACE Mentorship program as a student mentor and currently sits on the Associate Board. Together with industry partners and friends, he helped raise $19,000 to purchase materials and build two micro-homes at Community First Village.

In 2015, Justin was introduced to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas (RMHC CTX) and has been a consistent supporter of the organization ever since. Justin has been actively involved in the Hoar Construction “cook team”, a group that prepares lunches for the guests of the House once a month. Over the summer of 2018, the team raised money to bring a much-needed refresh to the kitchen of the RMHC CTX house. Currently, Justin serves as the Service Chair on the Friends of House Leadership Council, and he is a founding committee member and event chair of the RMHC Sporting Clay Classics, an event that has raised nearly $150,000 dollars in its first two years to help support the children and families that rely on RMHC CTX.

2019 Leadership Award Recipient

The Leadership Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates consistent, driven leadership that impacts their firm and the Austin A/E/C industry as a whole. This person goes out of their way to mentor less-seasoned members of the industry in an effort to create and support the next generation.

Aan Coleman has contributed significantly to the shaping and maturation of the profession of landscape architecture in Texas for the past 35 years. She founded Coleman & Associates in Austin during a recession and emerged as an industry leader known for projects with a strong sense of place, environmental context, and sustainable focus.

Since 1982, Aan has been an active advocate in the evolution of public policies that affect the profession as well as land use, land development, and environmental policy.  She continues to volunteer her time and services and promotes giving back to the community within her team. Presently Aan is a member of the City of Austin Design Commission, Executive Board Member of RECA and sits on the College of Architecture Dean’s Advisory Council at Texas A&M.  Last year, Aan was honored as a Texas A&M Outstanding Alumni of the College of Architecture.
