I Belong: Audrey Ormond
Audrey Ormond
Senior Marketing Coordinator
The Beck Group
Can you tell us a bit about your career?
I started in the AEC industry in 2015 at The Beck Group as an administrative assistant. While assisting the executive leaders of Beck’s Austin office, I started helping out the marketing team with pursuits and events. In 2017, Beck encouraged me to go back to school to complete my degree and since I had been helping out the marketing team, it just made sense to major in marketing. While working full time and taking 16-18 hours of classes, I was able to receive my Bachelors Degree in business administration, majoring in marketing, at Concordia University Texas. Since graduating in 2019, I have transitioned into the marketing department and am now a Senior Marketing Coordinator.
What is your marketing superpower?
My marketing superpower is being very charismatic. As I grow into my marketing career, I have become more and more charismatic, which I think is important when working in an industry where our data gathering relies on so many around us. Additionally, planning events and being able to increase participation from those around me is important. Being charismatic allows me to be comfortable stepping up to leadership roles (in SMPS and at my day job).
How did you get involved in SMPS?
I started attending SMPS events in 2017/2018 and became a member in 2021. Since graduating and the pandemic, I wanted a way to connect with like-minded AEC industry people and SMPS was the perfect fit.
Why is SMPS valuable to you?
SMPS is valuable to me because of all the connections you are able to make. In the past year, I’ve made several friends and found my place in the Austin AEC marketing community.
Why do you belong in SMPS?
The friendships I've made in SMPS Austin have helped me feel a sense of belonging within the organization and the AEC marketing community as a whole.
